Shuili Snake Kiln origniated in 1927. Founder Lin Jiang Song was a ceramist in Nantou. Since Shuili was a distribution center of timber, there was ample fuelwood and high-quality clay suitable for making pottery. The kiln was established for making pottery, and is still operating to this day.
Shuili Snake Kiln is Taiwan’s oldest and most traditional and representative wood-fired kiln. The kiln itself is more than 30 meters long. With wood as fuels, ash falls on the pottery and generates diverse color combinations and a rustic texture, which cannot be replaced by a modern kiln.
